Midnight Storm

This piece evokes an image of the stark contrast of a winter storm at night. The silver beadwork mimics frost spreading across the dark earth, framing the natural-snowflake patterns frozen inside the black stone.

The stone is Snowflake Obsidian, a natural volcanic glass that forms when molten lava cools fast, allowing tiny crystals of a mineral called cristobalite to grow inside, creating the snowflake-like patterns in grey or white. Typically it is found in places with past volcanic activity, such as Italy, Mexico, and the United States.
